In most of the surrounding villages, Romanesque art abounds...Visit the forts, churches and citadels that all bear witness to the area’s abundant historical heritage. Mont-Louis, at an altitude of 1,600 metres and situated on the edge of the Cerdagne Plateau, is the highest fortified town in France.
Since July 2008, Villefranche de Conflent (for its surrounding walls and fort) and Mont-Louis (for its citadel) have been registered as world heritage sites by UNESCO.

Go on a voyage of discovery into the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Park, which covers some 138,000 hectares of Cerdagne, Capcir and Haut-Confluent, including Mount Canigou, Pic Carlit and Puigmal. At an altitude of 2,017 metres, Lake of Bouillouses and its surroundings, in the district of Mont-Louis, have been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty.

There are all sorts of animals waiting to meet you on a wildlife walk and in the national parks. At the bottom of Mount Canigou you can see wolves, mountain sheep, bears, deer and various species of bird, in the Casteil Wildlife Park.
